Reviving an Exploited Community Pond in Chengalpet – Thazhambur Gandhi Road Pond

South of Chennai, close to the IT hub of Siruseri, the small town of Thazhambur is adorned with several large water bodies in its vicinity. Being located in a peri-urban pocket of Chennai, the town is constantly developing as several industries and residential complexes have found their way into it.

The Gandhi Road pond is one of the many water bodies that can be spotted in this region. Used and exploited for domestic purposes, invasive weeds and solid waste began to take over the pond, thereby contaminating it.

In an effort to revive the water body, E.F.I with administrative support from the Chengalpet District Collectorate and funding support from Hexaware Technologies had taken on the task of ecologically restoring the pond back to its natural state. Take a look at all that had happened during its restoration.

We thank the local residents and volunteers who strengthened our efforts in restoring the pond. Check out what the community had to say about this restoration!
