Before the industrial revolution that took over this neighborhood, Santhakuppam was a cut-off rural hamlet. Farming, dairy and a simple life that drastically changed in the 90’s with an automotive factory coming close by. With migration for jobs, lack of farming and changing lifestyle, water bodies of the region went into a state of neglect. Under the BlueGreenChengalpet mission, EFI and the district administration took on the task of reviving 75 minor irrigation tanks including the Santhakuppam lake in 2025, part of a large mission in sustainability.
