Coimbatore’s Mega Afforestation Drive

With plenty to offer from its hand, Coimbatore has been etched in the people’s hearts as a place of tranquility owing to its picturesque landscapes and welcoming people. Blessed with hills, forests, rivers, lakes and ponds, the city has got it all.

Over the years, this seemed to have attracted a large crowd, making the city grow and modernize at a pace that is quite unimaginable. Unfortunately in the process however, the environment was neglected. Ponds had become cesspools, and forests had become barren lands.

In an effort to increase the green spaces of Coimbatore, E.F.I along with the District Administration has taken on the task of establishing 25 urban forests in the city! Having worked in the past by setting up four such forests, the organisation was backed by the support of the community to launch this ambitious project.

The list of afforestation sites taken up under this project:

  • Arumuga Nagar West
  • Bharati Nagar Park
  • CS Nagar
  • Indira Nagar, Singanallur
  • Palanisamy Colony, Kalapatti
  • Sowbagya Nagar, Kalapatti
  • JS Nagar, Kalapatti
  • Kannabiran Nagar, Kavundamapalam

E.F.I thanks the Government, the local authorities and the people for supporting this effort. Do stay tuned for more updates!
