Nampally-Public Gardens Lake, Hyderabad

The eco-restoration of Public Garden Lake was accomplished through dewatering, targeted desilting, and structural bund reinforcement. Ecological vitality and hydrological resilience were embedded into the site using a dedicated nesting island, groundwater recharge pits, and a solar-powered aerator to drive biodiversity, aquifer replenishment, and water quality. Perimeter fencing secures the site against encroachment, ensuring the long-term sustainability of this central blue-green asset.

The successful restoration of Public Garden Lake has restored its natural ecological function while substantially enhancing its capacity to serve Hyderabad’s urban ecosystem. Through targeted dewatering, desilting, and the excavation of over 33,000 m³ of silt, the lake’s water storage volume was increased by 50% (an extra 11,269 kiloliters). Complementing these works, key ecological and security upgrades—such as a solar-powered aeration system, groundwater recharge pits, an avian nesting island, and secure perimeter fencing—were integrated to ensure long-term sustainability. Today, Public Garden Lake stands as a model of urban collaborative conservation, demonstrating how natural resources can be revitalized to support local biodiversity, improve water security, and provide a vibrant recreational space for generations to come.
