Dasarikuppam Chitteri Restoration #BlueGreenChengalpattu

Hanumanthapuram in Chengalpattu district witnessed the restoration of four water bodies by E.F.I. in 2025 as part of the #BlueGreenChengalpattu mission, an initiative dedicated to reviving minor irrigation tanks across the district. In 2026, E.F.I. continued its restoration efforts in this agrarian landscape by taking up Dasarikuppam Chitteri, another vital irrigation tank serving the region.

Over the years, the lake had become heavily silted, significantly reducing its water storage capacity. Its embankments had weakened, affecting both the lake’s structural stability and its ability to support groundwater recharge. Through a series of scientific restoration interventions, the project focused on removing excess silt, strengthening the embankments, enhancing water storage capacity, and improving groundwater percolation to secure the lake’s long-term ecological and hydrological health.

A walkthrough of the restoration interventions carried out at Dasarikuppam Chitteri is presented below.
