சிவகங்கை வனங்கள் | E.F.I.’s Afforestation efforts in Sivagangai, Tamil Nadu.

Sivagangai district, a drought-prone region in southern Tamil Nadu, carries a rich legacy of resilience shaped by its landscapes and culture. Despite its harsh climatic conditions, the region is blessed with thousands of man-made lakes, sacred groves, grasslands, rivers, and hillocks that have sustained life for generations. In a landscape dominated by the destructive invasive weed Neltuma juliflora (formerly known as Prosopis juliflora), coupled with rising temperatures and increasingly parched conditions, afforestation efforts can significantly benefit both local communities and biodiversity. In collaboration with the District Administration, E.F.I. is developing two large-scale afforestation sites, planting thousands of native trees to restore ecological balance and strengthen climate resilience in the region.
