Waterbodies are more than just sources of water, they are living ecosystems that support communities, agriculture, groundwater, and biodiversity. Yet, years of neglect and human pressure can slowly transform these vital landscapes into degraded and vulnerable spaces.

Located near Venkannaguda village in the Shamshabad region of Ranga Reddy district, Nakkala Kunta Cheruvu is a 9-acre waterbody surrounded by agricultural fields. Over the years, invasive weeds, silt accumulation, garbage dumping, and poorly maintained embankments had impacted the lake’s storage capacity, hydrological and ecological health. With the support of the Ranga Reddy District Administration, E.F.I undertook a comprehensive restoration of Nakkala Kunta Cheruvu. From clearing invasive vegetation and removing waste to strengthening embankments, increasing storage capacity, improving groundwater recharge, and creating habitats for biodiversity, the restoration aimed to bring the lake back to life for people, wildlife, and the landscape around it.
