Located beside a forest in Perumattunallur village of Chengalpattu district, this large water body lies between a pristine natural landscape and the rapidly expanding suburbs of Chennai. Over time, Chinnaiyan Thangal witnessed severe degradation, including, excessive deposition of silt, garbage, invasive weeds, weakened embankments, and encroachments along its periphery.

As part of the #BlueGreenChengalpattu mission, E.F.I. undertook restoration by desilting, deweeding, creating recharge boxes, nesting islands and strengthening embankments using the removed silt. Just before the work was completed, timely rains filled the lake, marking the beginning of its revival.
