The 50-acre lake restoration of Perumal Kanmai in Sholapuram Panchayat of Sivagangai District in just 50 days may be a happy coincidence, but the dedication and relentless effort poured into transforming that lake are anything far from chance!

A crucial effort in the restoration process was the construction of a mini pond. As the kanmai dries up during summer, it leads to cattle grazing. Such grazing, combined with dry land, can result in agricultural encroachments in the kanmai. To address this issue, a mini pond was constructed to recharge groundwater and enhance water retention capacity of the lake. Protective fencing will also be erected to protect the lake’s boundaries.
