Coimbatore, also known as Kovai, is the second largest city in the state of Tamil Nadu. Coimbatore has a rich natural heritage as it is located on the banks of the Noyyal River and surrounded by the Western Ghats. The city is blessed with natural resources, waterbodies, wildlife and green cover.
Often referred to as the “Manchester of South India”, Coimbatore is a bustling industrial city renowned for its textile industry. With the emergence of prominent IT and manufacturing hubs, Coimbatore has been experiencing rapid urbanization, leading to increased pressure on its natural resources.
However, beyond its economic development, the residents of Coimbatore have instilled a deep appreciation for nature and a growing commitment to environmental sustainability. This commitment is evident in E.F.I.’s collaborative conservation efforts with its dedicated volunteers in Coimbatore.

EFI’s activities in Coimbatore have seen the participation of 6,124 volunteers, who have collectively removed 4,792 kilograms of garbage, planted 50 saplings, and created 15,600 seed balls. These efforts were carried out across 84 activities, demonstrating the community’s strong engagement with environmental conservation.
The “RakeLake” initiative focused on cleaning and restoring Coimbatore’s water bodies, with 881 volunteers participating in 26 activities. Together, they cleared 4,072 kilograms of garbage using 366 sac bags.
“ForesTREE,” a plantation activity, involved 1,339 volunteers who made 15,000 seedballs, dispersed 12,000 of them and removed 85 kgs of trash.
EFI’s “School waale” initiative reached 1,827 volunteers across 20 educational institutions to raise awareness and educate the younger generation, sensitizing nature conservation through documentary screenings and environmental orientations.
The “Wall-E” initiative in Avinashi Road Flyover and Chinnasamy Naidu Road have brought life to Coimbatore’s walls while imparting knowledge about local wildlife.
