Ambattur an industrial hub is home to several mid-income and low-income residents. Large lakes to small ponds are spread across the neighborhood. Urban expansion has left many of these water bodies completely neglected. The Ayyan Kulam is one such an abandoned water body, which was taken up by Environmentalist Foundation of India (E.F.I) for restoration. The revived water body is now monsoon ready.
