Parched land, climate change and its impact clearly visible. In the foothills of the Western Ghats, in the rain shadow region lies a small village in Tirunelveli District. Farming was the primary occupation, however, over the years failing monsoons and extreme heat has ensured a complete drought like situation. Region known for its water management is today one of the driest places on earth. All that the Ambur Village and its lakes needed were a little bit of intervention to bounce back to life.
E.F.I took on the task of reviving 5 water bodies in the Tirunelveli District of Tamil Nadu in 2017. The Ambur Lake was one of them, that underwent a complete transformation. The dry lake bed was scientifically restored and was blessed with good monsoon rains immediately after. Today it is filled to the brim and is a major hope to all life forms dependent on it in the neighborhood.
