Naya Bangarda Lake Restoration – Indore, Madhya Pradesh

Indore is a bustling city balancing rapid economic ambitions with a growing commitment to environmental conservation. On the western side of the city, close to the airport and adjacent to the Super Corridor, lies the Naya Bangarda Lake. Nestled beside a hillock and surrounded by expanding roads and urban development, this lake remains an important ecological and water resource for the region.

Over the years, the lake gradually turned into a dumping ground, with non-biodegradable waste accumulating along its periphery. Invasive weeds began taking over the edges of the waterbody, while continuous silt deposition significantly reduced the storage capacity of this important water resource in the region. The embankments also became weak and eroded over time, reducing the structural integrity of the lake.

With the support of the Indore Municipal Corporation aṇd KONE,
Environmentalist Foundation of India undertook the restoration of Naya Bangarda Lake.
