Karanaipuducheri Thangal, located away from dense human settlements yet closely bordered by growing residential areas, is a vast lake on the outskirts of Chennai in Chengalpattu district. Situated downstream of a forest, the lake collects and holds rainwater and forest runoff within its expansive embankments.
With no proper access roads, the lake is encircled by rapidly expanding residential developments. Once a crucial source of water for agriculture and farmlands, the area is now quickly transitioning into a concrete jungle.
Garbage dumping, invasive weeds, weakened embankments, and excessive siltation had pushed the lake into a degraded state. E.F.I., in collaboration with the Chengalpattu District Administration, took on the task of reviving this vital water body.
