Located on the Karanai main road Karanaithangal lakes is an important water body in the Semmanchery-Navalur region.

The Karanaithangal lake was subjected to abuse and exploitation over the years with the dumping of non-biodegradable waste and the entire lake was overtaken by the alien invasive weed species. To revive the lake back to its former glory, E.F.I along with administrative support from the Kanchipuram District Administration had taken on the task of reviving the Karanaithangal Lake.
