சென்னையின் மேற்கு புறநகர்ப் பகுதியில் அமைந்துள்ள அயப்பாக்கம் ஏரி உண்மையிலேயே அதன் சொந்த உலகமாகும். இந்த ஏரியில் பல அழகான பறவைகள், பாம்புகள் மற்றும் தவளைகள் வசிக்கின்றன. இது ஒரு காலத்தில் அனைவராலும் பயன்படுத்தப்பட்டது.

ஆனால் ஆக்கிரமிப்பு தாவரங்களின் வளர்ச்சி மற்றும் கழிவுநீரின் ஓட்டம் காரணமாக, இந்த ஏரி தனது உயிரை இழக்கத் தொடங்கியது.

Nestled in the Western suburbs of Chennai, Ayapakkam Lake is truly a world of its own. This lake hosts several beautiful birds, snakes, and frogs and was once used by all.

But due to the growth of invasive plants and flow of sewage, this lake started to lose its life.

E.F.I in collaboration with the Public Works Department of Tamil Nadu, the Tiruvallur District Collectorate and the Rotary Club of Madras took on the task of restoring this water body.

In the first week of restoration, solid waste and invasive weeds which pose a threat to the ecosystem were removed followed by desilting and construction of bunds to rejuvenate its ecological identity.

A unique trench design to reduce human interaction and to supply water for the eco-park in the lake.

The G nesting island has shaped in form along with it’s one directional, parallel canal system within the lake. A hydro balance set up catering to the inflow of all seasons.

Construction of dual embankment prevents rapid soil erosion and protect the lake from further dumping of waste. The islands with neem tree has been constructed to conserve the species and would be a natural nesting place for birds and other reptiles in near future.

Today, owing to the 2020 Monsoons and the heavy rains from the Nivar Cyclone, the lake has completely filled up with water!
