The GCC – E.F.I Collaboration

The administrative backing strengthening civic society volunteering towards water conservation. Chennai sets a water standard for India.

Collaboration is the key to conservation. When cause is the hero, any project, no matter the difficulty or challenges ahead, is executed perfectly! Our cause has been and will always be water conservation. E.F.I thanks the Greater Chennai Corporation for providing support in the water conservation projects in the city of Chennai.

Anaikeni Pond, Sholinganallur

சென்னையின் I.T. மையத்தில் அமைந்துள்ள, ஆணைக்கேணி குளத்தின் அறிவியல் சார்ந்த மறுசீரமைப்பு!

Located in the I.T. Hub in Chennai, the Anaikeni Pond is going trough a Scientific restoration prior to the 2020 North-East Monsoons! Watch what all went into this restoration effort! We at E.F.I thank all those who supported this pond restoration effort.

Kannagi Nagar Lake, Thoraipakkam

கூட்டு முயற்சியில் சென்னையில் புனரமைக்கப்பட்டு வரும் நீர் ஆதாரங்களில் ஒன்று இந்த குளம். வறண்ட வருங்காலம் தவிர்க்க நம் குலம் காக்கும் குளங்களை பாதுகாப்போம் வாரீர்.

The Kannagi Nagar Lake adjacent to the OMR was taken up for an Eco restoration. Today with its newly strengthened bunds and deepened water holding area, the waterbody is once again becoming the identity of the locality!

Kannan Kulam, Thoraipakkam

A gym and a religious structure that were occupying the pond area were removed with support from all the residents in the neighborhood. The citizens have been keen on reviving this waterbody and the pond is now all ready for the NE Monsoons of 2019.

The Kannan Kulam today is a cleaner, reclaimed and levelled pond with optimized storage and stronger embankments.

Karuppan Kulam, Ambattur

 A sleepy suburban pond got a magical transformation through a collaborative community-based environment conservation effort!

The pond that became a dumpyard is now a revamped pond again. A central circular recharge pit, triangular recharge shafts and more in this revived water body are the unique features.

Madhanakuppam Pond, Ambattur

Madhanakuppam pond was revived in a matter of 60 days! Locked in an abandoned roadways project site, was this exploited water body. Through dedicated efforts, the pond is now back to life.

Pidari Ponniamman Pond, Ambattur

Ambattur an industrial hub is home to several large lakes & small ponds that are spread across the neighborhood. Urban expansion has left many of these water bodies completely neglected. The Pidari Ponniamman Koil pond was one such a neglected water body.

This pond, over the years was slowing turning into a dumping site and if not intervened would have been built upon.

Sada Kulam, Ambattur

Located close to the iconic Korattur Lake, this suburban pond was facing the urban wrath similar to many other freshwater bodies. This pond has now been restored from nothing but a barren piece of land.

Thandukarai Pond, Pallikaranai

The Thandukarai pond is located just a few miles from the Chennai’s only surviving wetland ecosystem, the Pallikaranai Marshland. With its bund strengthened, garbage, and weed removed, and civil structure repair works completed, the pond is now ready for the 2020 Monsoons!

Uzhavarkeni Thangal, Panaiyur-ECR

ECR in Chennai know for its serene beaches is also home to several waterbodies. One such a pond is the Uzhavarkeni Thangal in Panaiyur. E.F.I prior to the North East monsoon took up this pond for an Eco Restoration and today, the pond looks completely diffrent to what it was a couple of months ago!

Vairavan Kulam, Ambattur

Revived in just 90 days, this pond is monsoon ready and is all set to become the neighborhood water source. The pond with sunk wells is a unique water holding structure. We at E.F.I thank all those who supported and strengthened this effort.

Kattabomman Pond, Perungudi

A stone’s throw from the Pallikaranai Marsh, the Kattabomman pond is one of those peripheral waterbodies around a marshland. This pond today is an urban oasis. E.F.I celebrates all those who strengthened the effort to revive the water body.

Sannan Kuttai, Sholinganallur

The East Coast Road and the Old Mahabalipuram Road run parallel to the Buckingham canal in Chennai. Adjacent to the canal are several freshwater ponds, the Sannan Kuttai is one such a water source. Abused and exploited over the years is today revived through community participation

Alli Kulam, ECR

The Alli Kulam pond was dumped with construction debris and non-degradable trash, and the shallow levels further reduced the water storage levels. After the revival, the pond’s water holding area were deepened across the contours to increase storage capacity.

Nehru Nagar Pond, Thoraipakkam

Nehru Nagar pond located on OMR was dumped with construction debris. The pond was cleaned of the dumped trash, debris and its bunds strengthened.

The pond located on the expressway now wears a new restored look.
