The Kannan Kulam located off OMR at Thoraipakkam is the best example of a decentralized water source for a small community in a crowded city. The pond was encroached, however, with support from local residents and city administration, all encroaching structures were brought down. The pond’s boundary is now well defined, a dual bund and a protective fence along with recharge wells have given this water body a whole new identity.
